Location: Chris' Hale - 3372 Fort Independence Street, Bronx, NY 10463

Materials

Lei Po'o/koko

  1. Scissors

  2. Raffia - Chris and I will provide, but will be good if you have your own if you plan to make a lot of lei. Small packet OK for now. Natural color. Real not paper.

  3. Clamp (optional) - Will help created appropriate tension without another person.

  4. Tupperware big enough to store lei - Will prevent lei being crushed. Chris and I will have discretion if lei will need to be remade.

Make-up - Mirror, and refer to Hula Makeup Kit below. Download Word doc version here.

Hula Makeup Kit

Foundation Base: Should be a liquid or cream. Should match your skin color. The “long wear” or “24 hour” types work especially well if performances are outside, but just your normal foundation (if you have one) will work

Setting Powder: Should be either in your shade or translucent. Loose powder is better than compact powder, but either will do.

Concealer: Should be at least 2 shades lighter than your skin color/foundation.

Bronzer/Contour: (Optional but highly recommended to help get those cheekbones popping!) Should be a dark color, at least 2 shades darker than your skin color/foundation, that matches your skin tone- i.e. warm, neutral or cool.

Blush: (Optional.) Should match your skin tone- i.e. warm, neutral or cool.

Eyes

Brows: Can be either a pencil or pomade, recommendation is to get the pomade as you have more control over the intensity and it goes quicker than a pencil. Note for blondes: Your eyebrows are naturally 5 shades darker than your hair color. However going on stage may wash them out. Recommendation is to use a light ash brown.

Eye Shadow: Get a palette (at least 4 colors) in a neutral tone (browns, light purples/pinks, golds, coppers). Great examples are: Maybelline’s City Mini Palette in Chill Brunch Neutrals: Price- Under $10 in CVS/Target etc.

Urban Decay Naked2 Basics: Price- $30 from Sephora

Almay’s Smoky Eye Trios in Smoldering Embers 20 OR Everyday Neutrals

Eyeliner: Can be in either dark brown or black. Can be either pencil or gel liner.

Mascara: Should be in either dark brown or black in whichever brand you prefer.

Eyelashes: Usually includes glue, but if not get glue that dries clear. Should be natural looking (we are just using them for enhancement). Use the numbers (or similar looking ones) for the following brands:

  • Ardell - Natural Lash Black 120

  • KISS - Looks So Natural Lash- Graceful

  • MAC - 75 Lash

Lips

Liner: Red- Have a lip liner that matches your lipstick. Best way to do this is to by a “kit” which will have the liner and lipstick together. Get an “invisible” lip liner, as this will keep your lipstick from feathering. Almost every brand has one. Looks like the clear crayon you used to use on Easter eggs.

Lipstick: Red- should match your skin tone, but a cool red (Such as Ruby Woo by MAC) looks good on most.

Alternative brands:

  • NYX Matte Lipstick in Perfect Red

  • Loreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Doesn’t Matte-R 405

  • Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color in Passion

Brushes:

Powder Brush- big and fluffy used for setting powder

Blending Eyeshadow Brush- fluffy but small enough to fit on your eyelid

Small Angled Brush- used for applying exact concealer, also needed if using a brow pomade OR gel eye liner

Spoolie Brush- needed for brows and lashes

Flat Eyeshadow Brush- (Optional.) for applying shadows to base of lid, not required.

Angled Blush Brush- (Optional.) used for blush and/or contour
