Na Pua Mai Ka Lani Nuioka
Hula Classes in Queens, NY
Things to know before your first Class
Aloha! We are thrilled you are interested in dancing and learning about hula. We are a cultural group, meaning that, although there are many health benefits, our main goal is to educate, share, and perpetuate the hula and Hawaiian culture the best way we can following Kumu Kale's teachings.

Please be prepared to dance barefoot with comfortable and loose clothing. It is not required, but you can wear your own pa'u or a pareo (lavalava/sarong) if you would like. Bring water, and some snacks (the day is long) and there are restrooms on-site.

The first class is a free trial, after there is tuition which you can pay weekly or monthly. However, if you do find yourself struggling financially, please talk with us since we would not want money to be a barrier to learning and sharing hula.

If you do decide to return, after your fourth class we will ask if you officially want to become a haumana (student). We do require a commitment, however, NY can be a busy place, so how much you can commit is up to you.

As a haumana, you will be required to purchase and wear our uniform. This is a black pa'u (skirt) for men, women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people. You will also be required to wear a blank (no logo/text/images) black top, or a Na Pua Mai Ka Lani Nuioka top of any color if you have one.

Everyone starts as a beginner dancer, no matter your hula skill. This means you will begin to learn our repertoire and ho'ike (show) that you know the chants and dances. Once you ho'ike all the repertoire, you will become an advanced dancer. Beginners are welcome to dance in advance but must attend the beginner's portion. Advanced dancers are not required to come to beginners' class.
Please Confirm with us here prior to attending your first class. You will then be given the address to our studio in LIC.
